Fondesol

For more than 400 kilometers from the capital city of Guatemala, in the community Xalbal posted in the town of Playa Grande Ixcan, Quiche department, lives don Placido Silvestre Hurtado, 61 years old, who migrated to this community from elsewhere too distant of Huehuetenango. For a long time, don Placido had land, but without any support to increase their harvests. For several years, staff at Playa Grande FONDESOL Ixcan organized a Community Bank, with the intention to bring development to their community. Don Placido Hurtado has participated for 6 consecutive years in the lending programme of FONDESOL, especially for growing organic coffee, which he and his community have reached the degree to organize to compete in the market for organic products. Don Placido is very happy to continue to receive support from FONDESOL, because thanks to this support, has been able to succeed in that place so far and few public services.
