Human development reports have positioned Guatemala among Latin American countries with the lowest human development rates. This chronic poverty is reflected in the high levels of illiteracy, maternal and child mortality, chronic malnutrition, lack of employment, etc. This poverty circle does not allow that poor rural families and especially women can get a worthy economic and social development.
Based on the above, FONDESOL seeks to attend the structural problem of poverty in Guatemala on the limited access to financial services. This problem is more noticeable in the poor rural area; in indigenous groups specially women.
